Chief Information Officer
As Chief Information Officer, Jon Walton is responsible for setting the technology vision and creating an innovative environment for the County of San Mateo. He brings 23 years of experience working in both the public and private sectors, including leadership positions at Unisys, the City of San Jose, and the City of San Francisco. Under his leadership, San Mateo County implemented a shared service public safety radio system, a hyper-converged SDN datacenter, a multi-jurisdictional high-speed fiber network, and the migration of key enterprise applications to the Cloud. In addition, he oversaw the launch of SMC Public WiFi to help bridge the digital divide within the County. Under his leadership, the County launched its award winning Open Data Program to allow citizens to see performance metrics for all activities of the County government and promote better engagement by citizens. Jon has won numerous awards for technology excellence and leadership, and he works with governments, NGOs, and communities to imagine new ways of delivering services and creating more collaborative government organizations.
Deputy Chief Information Officer
Mr. Thakkar has expertise in managing content delivery, project oversight, strategic planning, Software as a Service, operational excellence, dashboards, and organizational optimization. His experience is complemented by demonstrated success in strategy development, P&L management, hardware and software licensing, product life-cycle management, vendor selection and contract negotiation activities. His work experience includes being Executive Director of the CJIS Governing Board at the State of Connecticut, Regional Director of Sierra Systems, Director at Gartner, Director at Unisys, and CTO of the U.S. Marshals Service (Center CA District).
